Well, I finally got the truck back home and had a little fun getting her here Saturday night. Still needs a bit a tuning, which we'll work on some more next weekend when I get back in town. I burned through 5 gal. of VP C12 (108) mixed with 5 gal. of 100 octane av gas tuning on it Saturday - she's definitely thirsty! The idle is still a bit high (1000) but I think we can bring that down through the IAC.

Now the fun stuff: first gear is basically useless on the Toyos OR the ET Streets on the street - nothing but smoke. My buddy followed me home, just as a precaution, in his '67 Mustang with 500+hp (427 small block) in a 2800 lb. package. After pumping $40 more into the tank, we did a 40 mph roll-on with me taking the move from 1/2 a car behind. I actually thought I was going to take him for a while as we were locked dead until I shifted to 3rd at which time I started to pull slightly. At about 100 aerodynamics took over and he started pulling me and I ended up lifting at 115 with him a length ahead. Not bad as we're expecting mid-to-low 11s out of this car - largely due to the four link. As well, with no tach (yet) and given my highly conservative nature, I'm undoubtedly short shifting the new build.

Further down the road I happened upon a modded black LS2 GTO on a 3-lane road. I got stuck behind him at a red light and was making my evil plans to ruin his night wondering if he'd engage. He must have noticed (undoubtedly heard) me as when he light turned green he nailed it like he was at the track. I blipped it in first immediately smoking the tires (gotta get used to a steady foot again) then just eased into 2nd in hopes of catching the next light. No luck for a dead even start at the next light but we had open road to do a rolling start. As soon as I got to his rear bumper he nailed it as did I with the 727 in 2nd. I immediately jumped a length on him where we were mirror to mirror. The look on his face was worth 10x the work I've done over the past three months especially as I started to pull him ever so slightly in 3rd. Then he began to pull me - my guess is he sprayed me with 75 to 100. He had 1.5 on me at 120 and I lifted. Apparently, he was pretty pissed as he stayed in it and was long gone by the time I got to the next light. I really wanted to ask him what he had done to the 6.0, but I must have bruised his ego by pacing him with a 5k+ lb. truck forcing him to resort to his reserve hp. With the tranny temp hitting 210F, I pointed the truck home....smiling my ass off. At least until I got home, that is. With the testosterone peaking, I forgot I had ALL my tools in the bed - got some nice scratches on my previously pristine (yet empty) nitrous bottle.

I plan to keep the truck at full weight (tonneau, gate, interior and hitch all stay), but I am going to lose the SRT10 front bumper. It would be a plus on a road course for frontal downforce, but it's pushing way too much air for straightlining.

I gotta thank Chris, Steve, Joey, Kim, Eric, crazy-ass Alex and everyone at Arrington. This 426 is nothing short of f$&king insane!! I feel the need to drive it to Martinsville so they can enjoy the fruits of their labor first hand. The dyno says 635 peak, but that doesn't even begin to describe this monster through the RPM range. These guys have applied what they've learned in years NASCAR R&D and it shows. I dare anyone to try and build a nastier 426. I just hope I can get this thing down the quarter to its full potential. Quite a weight on my shoulders, but I'll get it there.

Sounds like a wonderful finale to a great project. Anymore pics of the final product? What's the word on the big race?

Supposedly by June 2, but I'm not so sure. My competition's engine still is not ready (as of yesterday) and he's going to Europe for 9 days. As soon as he get's back I have to go to CT for a fishing trip (Long Island Sound) with my NAPA customers, fly home for 12 hours then we're both off to Little Rock to start the Power Tour in the '61 Panel. I don't know how this is going to play out. I'm just bummed we missed all the cool weather.

I've gotta write/shoot for the feature article in Sport Truck this weekend if the weather holds out. I'm going to have to borrow a Sport bumper from my buddy as the SRT10 bumper and rocker moldings are history and my new bumper hasn't been shot yet. Luckily his truck is PS2 silver, too.

BTW - found out this week the Goat from Saturday night was supercharged. Not bad for a 5k lb. brick on a driveability tune.:d/ I think I might have had him on the Arrington "kill" tune.
