I remember my brothers race car had one on it. It was an insulated can which you could fill with ice (preferably dry) and it was installed in the fuel line before the carburator (fuel injectors). The idea was to cool the gas before it entered the engine for more power. (my sincerest apologies to those who knew what a cool can was)

I'm not even sure it helped to be honest. And it was a pain in the *** to always find dry ice before the race. But I think in principle it should work.

Kev,
It's great to prevent fuel vaporization due to heat hell I've seen people icing down the intake manifold remember the cooler or denser the air equals more power. Not practical for everyday use though.

Never seen it be an issue on fuel injected engines (doesn't mean it wouldn't be), but I have on carb'd engines. There's always a handful of cars on the Power Tour that succumb to the traffic pulling into the stops, vaporizing the fuel. I thought, due to the higher pressure, FI engines were nearly immune to this, but that could be wrong.

I wounder if you could set up a CO2 system to cool your fuel system?Think I think DEI Cryo2 has something like that. They also hve a bulb that you could place in your CAI to cool incoming air and of course cooling of your intercooler or heat exchanger if you have one.

I see people throwing ice packs on their intake and/or plenum all the time at the track. And it works too... when I used to run a 600hp Supra out there, it work, and worked well. My EGT's were always several degree's cooler, sometimes by the 100's depending on the weather.

Since some of us are talking about Procharger on the other post, there's several cars that come to the track with a kits from them being they're in town. Some of the high HP cars have huge piping coming from the Procharger up front, coming in the fire wall, right next to the driver where the passenger seat would be, into what's pretty much an ice box of an intercooler. Then it's piped right back up front into the intake. It's a crazy setup if you've ever seen it, but boy does it work. Let alone a system like that helps with weight distribution.

Well if ya got a 3rdstrike, or Mopar CAI, something similar, wrap yer up yer CAI tube with some reflective insulation wrap of some kind first. Then box in the front of the heat shield somehow, then just throw a bag of ice inside the heat shield box, below the filter. Instant track day ice box intake.

Course you'd prolly wanna have some kind of a drain for all the water yer gonna be carryin' afterwords, lol. Drool

Nitrous works pretty well for cooling down your air intake charge. :) The Snow Performance kit would also be a big help in the heat, IMO, even on an NA motor factoring how these trucks run when it's hot.
