Alright guys, gotta call today from the folks here at Arrington; they're looking seriously at building SRT8 Rams the way we wish Dodge would have. They're extremely interested in input from other enthusiasts in all regards. A SRT10-mocking 500hp version of the 6.1 is a given, but what would you like to see with regard to the driveline, suspension and interior/exterior design? Do you make a bad ass all around sport truck? Something more targeted to the strip?

I have my ideas, but I'd go on forever and I want to hear yours. Converse...Think

I'd like to see a set up similiar to the Jeep. AWD, around 550hp, ant they have to be flashy. I love the Mr Norms trucks but discouraged at the lack of tuning and performance they have.

It would be awesome if we could have a tuner link the Banks six gun they have for the deisels. We could cruise like normal, a chevy puls up and we release the beast!!

I 100% agree with that! Drool Drool Drool Anyway, what they need to do is build the engine, throw a Sharadon trans in it, build some carbon fiber driveshafts for both the quad and single cabs, and run the Srt-10 rear axles and front brake systems! And 500hp? Why stop there? Whistle Angel

"Oh, and one of THESE."

Freeze, that thing gave me wood.... Anxious

Bullet proof tranny, high flow heads, nasty cam, electric cut out w/electronic rpm switch, and a 6 speed short throw. Detroit locker, 20x10 rears, 20x9 fronts, forged and light weight. 2/4 lowered, adjustable 4-link, traction bars, maybe a small tub job, 4/6 point cage, race seats, 5-point harnesses, gutted.

If building an SRT8 Ram, the ones that KNOW what its for, will not care too much about fancy looks, as long as it looks bad azz and illegal. Angel

My goodness! I like what you guys have in mind, but I'm trying to think affordable! lol

If you're going to ask me what Dodge "should" have made for an SRT-8 truck, well that's simple. They already made the SRT-10, so if you're asking about my idea of what a stock SRT-8 Ram would be... the exact same thing as an SRT-10, but with the 392 crate motor. Simple! The 392 with EFI has 510hp. That already is 10hp more than the Viper motor. What more do you need? (From a factory-like stand point of course.)

Anything more is personal preferance and mods, lowering, etc.

If you're trying to go along the lines of a Mr. Norm, Yenko, Baldwin Motion type of aftermarket factory support, well that's a totally different type of build if you ask me.

If you could build me an affordable HEMI with 500+hp to mate in front of a T56 in a RC SRT-10, I will put my truck up for sale right now, and find an SRT-10. Keep the Viper motor. My own dad would even throw money my way to get something like that!

For a mild SRT8 1500 Ram Dana 60 better tranny 6.1 motor exhaust similar to the SRT Jeep. Now for what I would really like: Stroked, ported, cammed, motor with the new i-charger supercharger the new 90mm TB. 727 tranny with Dana 60 rear end with complete SS exhaust system ported out the center of rear valance ground effects. Fourteen inch brakes and 4-6 puck calipers adjustable height suspension maybe AWD.Anxious

2007 4x4 Sport QC
Couple mods here and there.

Good input! I think the goal is not to go too over the top so it appeals to a broad market, yet would be the perfect platform for whichever direction the owner wanted to take it. Big ass Brembos or Baer discs are a must. A nasty stance with a 2/5 drop with LIGHT 22's tucked and staggered (22x8/ 22x10) wheels under rolled fenders/quarters. QA1 adjustable coilovers on all four corners with larger (yet easily removeable) sway bars with poly bushings. They could steal the splitter from the 10, but a custom piece would be nicer to avoid any confusion. A recessed tonneau with a tailgate spoiler that wraps around the back of the truck from tailight to tailight. I'd like to see the 440 six-pack hood Colt (whatever happened to him?) had on his turbo truck.

Transmission? I'm tempted to say T-56, but I've driven an SRT10 as well as T-56 equipped F-bodies. The long throw really sucks. You'd probably get used to it, but I still think I'd opt for a built automatic with console manushift like the LX cars have.

I like the idea of a stripper inside. No creature comforts, just brawn with a host of gauges to keep tabs on the 392. Lighweight, manual seats with plenty of bolster support.

To comment on the T-56 shift throw in the 10: Yer right, but... something to try the next time yer in one (if ya haven't yet), I found myself flipping the console up to get my elbow lower for a more comfortable shift. After doing this, the knob felt to high. Next step would be to modify the shifter down for a lower position of the knob, and of course, add a pistol grip. Doing those 2 things would make a world of difference to me on an SRT-10, and help a lot! IMO Obviously this would shorten the throw for ya.

So Jared... give us a little more insight into what kinda budget they're looking at to build a "production" truck like this? An idea like a base HEMI truck RC/SB for $22-23k or so, another $15k in mods to sell a truck in the high $30k range?

It may be cheaper to go that way, but what about a package deal for existing owners trucks? Call it the "Arrington SRT-8 performance conversion". 6.1 crate, intake and exhaust included, a T-56, wheels, seats, 2/4 drop. Get a few manufacturer's who specialize in those area's to support it... it could work?

Don't know for sure what their plans are; a few production vehicles, one flagship truck, etc. They really just asked me to get everyone imagineering as they're still in the planning stages.

I am re-thinking the whole auto trans thing though. While it would detract from its strip performance (depending on what auto you compare it to), a true sport truck needs a stick. Maybe build a drag pack version with a slushbox, but I'd want a stick, long throws and all.

I agree... 'cept for the long throws. That's for diesels, lol. Unless you mean "long throw" as in old skool bench seat muscle car long throw compared to the short throws you see it today's sports car. Then I'll agree with that.

Wow... sounds like a dream truck than an actual doable rig. I think/hoping they were talking about something this side of $100k. :D

I've got a 05 Ram that I'm trying to build to those spec's right now. Don't know what the engine would run(hopefully no more than 15k for a mild manner street 426), but I'm thinking I'll get her done for about 30 to 35k dollars for the mods based on prices I've seen. Just gonna take me awhile if all goes well. So far, I'm hopping to be completed with the body by the first of the year. I'd bet a new rig could be put together for well under a 100k. Wish I had that kind of cash to find out!
