Joe C.’s Challenger with Aluminum 449 HEMI with API Twin Turbo Kit

From time to time our customers ask for a build that lines up with our R&D projects. These Guiney Pigs end up with smoking power they wanted when they came to Arrington Performance but also get some nifty upgrades that we haven’t even got out to the public yet! Over the next few months we will be overhauling Joe C’s Challenger. This will be an all-out test of our new Twin Turbo System as well as general horsepower tolerances of the Arrington 449CI Aluminum HEMI Engine. But we aren’t stopping there. This build will also feature our new Competition 1500 Fuel System, O-ring upgrades to the Phase 4+ Ported Heads, and a new custom 6 Point roll cage and 5 point racing harnesses. Check out this full build including the Dynatrac Pro 60-IRS rear end, Custom Dana 60 Drive Shaft, API Automatic Drive Shaft Safety Loop and API’s new 1-5/8 Sub-Frame Connectors and well you get the picture. Update 1-8-2013....Installing Arrington Custom 6pt Roll Bar

Roll Bar is almost complete. After nearly a week and time off for the holidays, the Arrington Performance 6 Point roll bar is nearly installed. This color matched custom built roll bar was constructed using exact measurements from the project car just like every roll bar or cage that we fabricate in our shop. This process ensures that the roll cage fits as close to the vehicle body as possible. This practice allows customers to retain their rear speakers in addition to providing greater visibility than competitor’s bulk built or bolt in models. This also allows us to follow the interior lines of the trunk and reuse the original lining. This means that your trunk liner will fit like it did from the factory and also provides much needed trunk space. Additionally each connection point is TIG welded to the body providing a stronger and more stable vehicle platform than a bolt in cage for suspension tuning and setup. The Arrington Performance 6 Point roll cage is individually crafted specifically for the application and exceeds current safety standards. Each component of the cage is cut, polished, bent, and welded by hand in house in order to maintain the highest standards and precise fit our customers expect. This 6 point cage is crafted from 1 3/4" O83 4130 Chromoly and meets NHRA standards up to 10.0. For a higher speed rating we also offer 10pt cages made to the same standards but constructed from 1 5/8" O83 4130 Chromoly that are NHRA Legal up to 8.50. Whatever the need, every roll cage or roll bar is custom fabricated allowing each build to setup according to the build’s purpose and customer’s expectations.

Update 1-31-2013....Engine Build

The Custom built 449 CI Aluminum High Boost Long Block is almost ready to be installed. This long block comes with all the bottom end rotating assembly parts found in short block motors, but also includes top end components such as performance heads and cams. Each custom long block is hand built by our master HEMI engine builders. Arrington Performance's custom Longblocks are manufactured to match the customer's needs and to complement all of the aftermarket parts chosen.

We started Joe's engine off by boring for the cylinders on our RMC. Next the block was stroker clearanced and deburred, cylinders and mainline honed, and the block was final washed and ready for assembly.

While all this was going on, the Crankshaft was balanced, polished, and washed; Connecting rods sized, Rings filed, and the main bearings were installed and checked for proper clearance. The engine was then assembled.

Update 4-5-2013....Finishing the Build

Over the past few weeks alot of work has gone into this build. Turbo's were built and installed as well as all the piping that is involved. The interior has been reinstalled and the 5 pt. harness added. The car has been wired for the AMS-1000 and the CO2 tanks were mounted. Some final engine components were also added such as Arrington Custom Fuel Rails and API Air/Oil Seperator.The DynaTrac rear end was installed as well as the custom Drive shaft. We double checked the car, added fluids, and she was ready for her Custom Tune and Dyno..
